Datarock are about to be Fa-Fa-Famous

March 7, 2007
The delightfully danceable band called Datarock are going to be huge. Hell, they're already huge at home in Norway. But I mean, they're going to be huge, huge. It's only a matter of time before Datarock's single "FaFaFa" is played at every party/venue/bar you go to and it will be the soundtrack to every single car commercial ever made. They're playing March 19th at the Empty Bottle in Chicago, but for those of you who are going down to SXSW, they're also playing the Oh My Rockness/Oya Festival's "Norway v.s. The U.S. of A." party. Catch it if you can!

Datarock, the dynamic electro-duo, say their sound is the trinity of Talking Heads, DEVO and Happy Mondays. I say they are the trinity of dancetastic! This isn't dance-rock like LCD, MSTRKRFT, or any of those "type" of bands, this is more, well, positive feeling than that. It really makes you want to shake your hips in a happy way, and not in an "I'm going to dance because I'm deciding self-consciously to turn my back on traditional indie rock" sort of way.

There seems to be a joy in these songs that is lacking in some of their genre's contemporaries (Hot Chip being a notable exception). But what do I know. I don't even dance. But I do know DataRock are going to be huge. Did I mention that already?

Datarock rock The Empty Bottle, on Monday, March 19th.
