Band We Like
Chomp - garage punk you can....munch on?
September 10, 2012
Chomp features two Cloud Nothings (Joe Boyer and Jayson Gerycz) and one Total Babe(s) (Chris Brown... no, not Chris Brown the asshole... c'mon guys, it's a pretty common name). Do you like those two bands Cloud Nothings and Total Babes? Why aren't you answering? You can talk directly into your screen or phone or tablet. Don't worry, I'll be able to hear it.
Well, I guess you're not up for that type of intimacy yet. But moving right along, Chomp plays quick garage-punk-pop songs that have been compared to Superchunk. Sounds good to me. Maybe throw in a "messier early Weezer" reference just for kicks, too. I mean, why the hell not, right guys? Sometimes the biggest risk in life is not taking one.
So yeah, Chomp sounds like that rocking GUITAR indie rock of the early to mid '90s. Remember that era? It was the era right after that synth-pop fad and right before that synth-pop fad. Chomp plays happy nostalgic rock for angry people. Or, angry nostalgic rock for happy people. One of the two.
Get into Chomp. You can file 'em under Loud and Fun. And then for the love of god STOP FILING. Get out of the house and go see a show or something. It's a beautiful night.
Chomp open for Cloud Nothings at Lincoln Hall, on Tuesday, September 18th, and Wednesday, September 19th.
