Band We Like
Fungi Girls: you'll be into it.
May 14, 2012
Texas trio Fungi Girls is three young dudes (like, mid-teens young) that rock some short and noisy lo-fi garage pop that blisters by you, leaving a nice little psych trail in its wake. Yes you've heard all this before, but Fungi Girls prove you can always hear just a little bit more.
This is music to booze to (the band members themselves can't do that though). It is music to sock hop bop to (pretty sure they're still old enough to do that). These jams are dirty and they're clean. And if that seems like a contradiction, you just don't know what I mean.
Fungi Girls will probably appeal to fans of Ty Segall, Fergus & Geronimo, Times New Viking and (they say) The Beach Boys. You like that stuff, you'll like this.
Oh yeah, did I mention that these guys are a few years away from even hitting 20? When I was 16, I was probably listening to Counting Crows. Every time she sneezes I believe it's love, guys. Just remember that. Anyway, Fungi Girls. Not girls. Super young. Super talented. Good band.
Fungi Girls plays the HoZac Blackout Fest at The Empty Bottle, on Saturday, May 19th.
