((Young Romance)) Band Profile and Upcoming Chicago Concerts - Oh My Rockness

Written by Patrick McNamara

Young Romance are a duo (Claire sings and plays drums + Paolo plays guitar) from London that write extremely catchy fuzz pop. They'll probably be pretty big time someday. Or, not. I've been wrong before. But I'm not wrong when I tell you that Young Romance could be on the radio right now. Maybe they already are. I don't really listen to the radio.

NME says that this band sounds like Kate Bush's vocals meets the guitar(s) of Jesus & Mary Chain. Damn. That's a pretty good description, NME. I wish I could just use that for my music blob instead of coming up with my own band comparisons. Hey look at that I just did.

Since forming, the band have released a 7" and an EP and they're both solid. I've conveniently posted a selection of songs from that output below because I'm a pretty chill dude. You know a debut full length album is coming soon, though, because Young Romance are just too damn accessible to be constricted by the limitations of a 7" and an EP. Not that there's anything wrong with those two formats. Many of my best (only) friends are 7"s and EPs.

As of this writing (4:00 PM in The Year That I'm Writing This) Young Romance are set to come to the States to play the always excellent NYC POPFEST*** with Beverly and Roman a Clef (members of A Sunny Day in Glasgow and please only click that if you're the type that enjoys reading eight-year-old band profiles) and some other bands I have not yet heard but quite possibly might love. You never know. And that's why music rules.

In summation, I love when the drummer is also the singer. Because it's dope.
