((The Libertines)) Band Profile and Upcoming Chicago Concerts - Oh My Rockness
The Libertines
The latest UK band to make it big, The Libertines closely follow the musical lead of The Strokes, The Hives, The Vines and other poppy garage-bands-made-good. A little more rowdy than those other bands, The Libertines are a perfect band to listen to when you're getting sloppily sloshed at the local bar and feel like spitting on someone.
They're British, they're boisterous, and they're quintessential Rough Trade. Depending on your point of view, they either rip off or pay homage to such early punk bands as The Clash, The Kinks and The Sex Pistols, complete with cheap guitars and resounding hand claps.
While all of their songs tend to run together, as is often the case in the garage rock genre, you'll find that the catchy melodies and riffs stay in your head much longer than that nasty hangover.
