Past Lives
If your pal says to you, "Yo, I just heard this great new slightly spazzy band from Seattle featuring former members of Blood Brothers and you should totally check them out" you should immediately seek further clarification. Because it's easy for Seattle's Past Lives to be confused with Seattle's Jaguar Love, both of whom were formed right around the same time.
Basically, these two bands are like when At the Drive-In became Mars Volta and Sparta. The Blood Brothers dudes who are not in one band, are in the other (with some help from a few friends).
Anyway, Past Lives probably sounds a little more like Blood Brothers than Jaguar Love does. This is rapid-quick punk full of restrained screams and dirty melodic riffs. Unfortunately, this band doesn't have the best guitar player in Pretty Girls Make Graves (that's the other one), but they do have the Blood Brothers' swagger. And swagger is all you really need.
