((Mugison)) Band Profile and Upcoming Chicago Concerts - Oh My Rockness

The one-man pop-electronic-folk band Mugison is apparently so loved in Iceland that they refer to him as "Moogie." His album was #1 in his home country for like a billion years, and his shows there consistently sell out. Take that Bjorkie and Sigur Rosie. Mugison the man, a former sailor, comes with a lot of his own mythology. He's from the remote town of Isafjordur in the West Fjords of Iceland, only a short sail from the North Pole. But don't confuse Mugison with his neighbor in the jolly red hat.

This guy writes off-kilter, tremendously heart-wrenching songs, which sound a lot like an electronic troubadour version of Will Oldham. At his shows, Mugison plays guitar and often distorts its sound, and his voice, through his laptop. Emotional words are sung with undeniable clarity. And the result is an ambitious and highly inventive performance.
