((Minor Victories)) Band Profile and Upcoming Chicago Concerts - Oh My Rockness

Written by Patrick McNamara

Ever notice how music writers are forever attaching “of sorts" when describing a supergroup?

(I've mentioned this before on my taste making music blob I'm pretty sure of it but it's always good to revisit this very important topic.)

Por ejemplo:

“Minor Victories is a supergroup of sorts, featuring etc. etc. etc. and blah blah blah."

Italics my own.

Why? Why? Why with the “of sorts" all the time? Why?

I get the 'S' alliteration thing. Totally. Sounds super sweet. But I wonder if many music writers also throw in the "of sorts" because they feel that the supergroup they are writing about isn't totally 100% a supergroup (after all, there was only truly one) and so want to back off a bit from their own label. It could be.

Two points on that. 1). Nobody forced you to call any band a supergroup, bro and 2.) See point 1.

Have you noticed this before? Well, you definitely will now. Start looking for the “of sorts" when you're reading about a supergroup and you'll start seeing all….the….time.

Sorry!

But anyway.

Minor Victories is a British supergoup of sorts featuring Rachel Goswell of Slowdive and Stuart Braithwaite of Mogwai and Justin Lockey of Editors and some other guy who's surely super for reasons other than being in some other group.

They sort of sound like a super version of a regular group.

Think Editors meets Slowdive meets Mogwai meets the other guy and you should be on the right track.

I hope this band profile has been helpful.

It's not easy writing about supergroups of sorts.

Just kidding! They totally write themselves!
