((Jason Molina (Songs: Ohia, Magnolia Electric Co.))) Band Profile and Upcoming Chicago Concerts - Oh My Rockness

Jason Molina (Songs: Ohia, Magnolia Electric Co.)

Jason Molina, the blue-collar singer/songwriter alt-folk troubadour, has also been known as Songs: Ohia and the Magnolia Electric Co. I guess he emulates Will Oldham (Palace, Palace Bros, Palace Music, Bonnie "Prince" Billy) in more ways than one. Molina's music was created in and inspired by the dusty Midwest that you read about in the tattered pages of Americana 101.

Besides Oldham, he's often been compared to Neil Young, and that's because he sure as hell sounds a lot like the guy. With sliding guitars, violins, swaying rhythms, and intensely confessional-style lyrics, Molina's music makes you want to hitchhike through a landlocked state. Or take a nap. Depending on your thing.
