((Hookworms)) Band Profile and Upcoming Chicago Concerts - Oh My Rockness

Written by Patrick McNamara

Hookworms are a noisy psych punk band from Leeds who carry a bit of the ol’ darkness with them. They’ll rock you out. But you’ll be considering that we are all just dust in the wind, dudes, as you do. Oh well. There are pluses and minuses to everything in this life, guys. There is no “I” in “Self.” Sic Transit Gloria. Glory Fades. Gotta Be. Applebee’s.

You’ll turn on, tune in, and groove out to Hookworms if you like loud hazed-out psychedelia that’s a tad too heavy to be straight hippy. There’s something slightly more sinister going on here than just peace and love, my brother. If you wanna hear furious shakes from a mad tambourine in your preferred fever dream, this is the band for you. If it seems like the walls are closing in on you (see: reverb) and the blazing, kaleidoscope ceiling (see: swirling guitar solos) is descending ever so closer to your chilly forehead and it brings on the start of PANIC but the punk part (see: the riffs) gently edges you out of it, well then, Hookworms and you are about to begin a beautiful friendship.

Also, here’s a fun fact about this band. Apparently, as of this writing, the members of Hookworms only go by their initials (MJ, MB, SS, JN, and JW). That’s ok, I didn’t really want to know their names anyway. Names are just a distraction, man. But I bet they stop with that initial thing at some point. Remember when Animal Collective only wore masks? However, in the meantime, expect to read many upcoming dynamic web features, written by the various music web alts, about how “enigmatic” this band is.

Enough words, words, words! Stream a couple of these Hookworms tracks. And as you allow yourself to be rocked out, remember not to panic when the lights get too bright and then the darkness comes. It’s all an illusion. The punk shall set you free. This is a game. This is a game. This is only a game.
