Lookout's latest signing is Minneapolis' Hockey Night, a group with a very pleasant way about them. Hockey Night features two drummers and two guitarists and the band's collective "bread and butter" is upbeat, perfectly harmonized melodies that are easy to hum along to. The prevalent sound is well-crafted poppy hooks with bouncy rhythms that remind one of Pavement meets Journey meets the carefree days of summer.
Hockey Night throws in a smattering of classic rock riffs and new wave organs to give their standard indie set-up an added boost of euphoria. This band won't offend, they won't hurt your ears, and they won't make you cringe. Now THAT'S a ringing endorsement if I ever heard one.
