((Coltrane Motion)) Band Profile and Upcoming Chicago Concerts - Oh My Rockness
Coltrane Motion
Chicago's Coltrane Motion is an electro-fuzz duo that incorporates a guitar tuned to lo-fi and a synthesizer set to dance. Consider their sound as if Stephen Malkmus suddenly decided he wanted to make dance music. Coltrane Motion's rock-electro (not to be confused with electro-rock or, heaven forbid, electro-clash) also sounds very similar to their stellar city-mates, Walter Meego.
Originally the solo bedroom recording project of singer/sampler Michael Bond, the band has morphed into its most current identity (they also used to be a trio) with the addition of guitarist Matt Dennewitz. It's that good guitar sound that makes Coltrane Motion a band and not just a hobby or programming project. Coltrane Motion is a good mix of 2007's dance beats, '90s indie rock, and Spector's sunny melodies from the '60s.
