((Chavez)) Band Profile and Upcoming Chicago Concerts - Oh My Rockness

Chavez

If you ask me, Chavez, not the Pixies, was the most exciting band reformation of 2005. Criminally underrated in the mass music media, NYC's Chavez released two of the best guitar-driven, angular, indie rock albums of the 90's -- 1995's Gone Glimmering and 1997's Ride the Fader. Chavez's songs were straight-up rock anthems. They played loud, you listened to it even louder, and all was right with the world.

But just as they were getting started, Chavez unexpectedly broke up (I guess singer/guitarist Matt Sweeney had to get Zwan out of his system) and I've been in mourning for years. But last year, they played a couple of blazing one-off shows with Guided by Voices that renewed interest in this band. A year later, they are playing around again and one can only hope a new album will shortly follow. These guys deserve to give us a second chance to discover their rockness.
