((The Wooden Birds)) Band Profile and Upcoming Chicago Concerts - Oh My Rockness

Ahhh, American Analog Set. That's the band that made all the kids release a thousand indie-rock sighs. What a damn pleasant group they were (R.I.P.). But after many years of pop bliss, founder/singer/songwriter Andrew Kenny has shed the Set and is now setting his musical sites upon The Wooden Birds.

This new pretty project comes with a crew of five (including David Wingo, singer of the similarly-blissful Ola Podrida). If you're a fan of Analog Set, there's just no way you're not going to like this. Like AmAnSet, The Wooden Birds are hushed and melodic and their easy-going melodies will make you feel all warm and fuzzy.

One slight directional difference I did notice is that Kenny seems to be channeling a little bit of a Neil Young thing. And let me tell you, it's not easy to channel a Canadian doing a southern twang. But moving on, Barsuk Records (Death Cab, Ra Ra Riot and such) is putting out the band's debut in the spring of 2009, and they'll be touring frequently.

Will they make us forget American Analog Set? Who knows, but we'll always have the memories. We'll always have the memories. Ahhh.
