The Occasion
The Occasion is a New York band that is quietly generating buzz. The attention is mainly due to their enthralling live shows. Playing with bands like Interpol, The Unicorns and On! Air! Library!, they've quickly developed the reputation as the opening band you don't want to be late for.
The Occasion self-released a self-titled album last year that was virtually impossible to find outside of their merch table. Fortunately, it was just picked up by Say Hey Records who has released it to a wider audience.
The fivesome combine electric and acoustic pianos, guitars, and tape loop programming with shared vocal duties and harmonies. The resulting sound is atomospheric and dense, equally enigmatic and entirely haunting. Not much is known about these guys outside of their music. It seems they prefer the low profile. But if they keep making music like this they won't be lo-pro for very long at all.
