((Amiina)) Band Profile and Upcoming Chicago Concerts - Oh My Rockness

I saw Amiina open for Sigur Ros a while back and I remember thinking how they were the absolutely most perfect band to open for those guys. I mean, Amiina's music sounded just like the sold-out headliners! How did they find someone so perfect to play with them? Only later did I sheepishly learn that Amiina was, in fact, fully responsible for all those pretty strings you hear on Sigur Ros' albums. So that explains the sonic similarities.

Iceland's Amiina is comprised of four young women who compose ethereal string orchestrations that swell towards euphoric climaxes. Their music is filled with the enchanting sounds of fantasy (sometimes it sounds like the sweet moments in "Gremlins"), and only rarely are vocals added into the mix. The fab four are all extremely talented musicians who trade off a whole host of instruments throughout their shows. But ultimately the cornerstone of Amiina's set is simple: two violins, a viola and a cello. File Under: Extremely Pretty.
