Oh My Rockness

"Ladies and Gentleman, we are The Killers and we're from Las Vegas!" (There are a few muffled coughs. Birds chirp in the distance). Yes that's right, The Killers are from Sin City. That's about as funny as Iron and Wine being from Miami. Some locales just don't have a lot of indie cred. "Hey man, let's go practice after we play a few slots."

But these guys are getting some buzz regardless of their casino roots. Vocalist Brandon Flowers (yes, Flowers) met guitarist Dave Keuning and discovered a mutual appreciation for bands like Oasis and New Order. They started practicing together, picked up a few more members and started touring with bands like Stellastarr* and British Sea Power. Island released their debut album Hot Fuss in 2004 and since then they've been packing out the shows with their 80's inspired pop rock.

Even if these guys don't exactly have "staying power" written across their amps, they're currently riding high on the 80's nostalgia wave. Perhaps it's a good thing there're no clocks in Vegas because time may be running out on this genre.
